What is Scanimals?
Scanimals is a free mobile collectible game for iOS devices.
What are Scanimals?
Scanimals are strange creatures that are trapped inside QR codes. Each Scanimal has a species name, a special description, a group it belongs to, and a biome in which it lives.
How do I play Scanimals?
It’s super easy! Once you’ve downloaded the app, you just open your Scanner and point your phone’s camera at any QR code. When your Scanner detects a QR code, it will free a Scanimal from that code and add it to your Home view.
Every QR code in the world is tied to a specific Scanimal. Scan different QR codes to find new and rare Scanimals and complete your collection!
How many Scanimals are there?
The number is always growing, but there are at least 100. Some are harder to find than others.

Is Scanimals for everyone?
Scanimals is available for users age 13 and up. That said, all of the game’s content is intended to be appropriate for all ages. We decided to limit downloads to ages 13+ to avoid accidentally violating the legal restrictions applied to kids’ apps.
So, in other words, if someone under 13 sees you playing Scanimals, you don’t have to worry that sexually explicit or violent content will appear on your screen.
Is Scanimals in active development?
Yes! So glad you asked!
We have A LOT of ideas for new features to add to Scanimals: new twists on the collectible gameplay, entirely new mechanics, and, of course, new Scanimals themselves.
However, we’re a small team, so we have to be ruthless in how we prioritize new work. That means we want to hear from you!

Is Scanimals completely free to play?
Yes, anyone can download and play it for free. In the future, we may introduce paid elements to the gameplay.

Can you see what I scan?
When you scan a QR code, we can see the data that the QR code contains. We can’t see your phone’s camera, your screen activity, or any actions you take at a linked URL.
